3D Everywhere In the Enterprise - Why Its Not Just Eye Candy Anymore...

To date, I’ve written a lot about innovations in mobility and media. Today, I’m going to switch it up and talk about some exceptional technology innovations in the manufacturing sector. There are a lot of big companies, including Microsoft and 3D chip maker NVIDIA, taking an interest in a significantly smaller, private enterprise software company out of Fremont, CA called Right Hemisphere. As you all know, with Vista comes the power and value of delivering 3D content to our customers. Right Hemisphere’s enterprise product graphics management software is a great example of how far 3D has moved out of the games and eye candy realm, and into the very serious, no-fooling around here infrastructures of world class manufacturing enterprises such as DaimlerChysler, Bell Helicopter, Abbott Laboratories, Northrup Gruman, Lockheed Martin and more.

Right Hemisphere has understood and anticipated the business value of 3D content beyond games and engineering for some time. Their applications help manufacturers find; use and reuse; and securely share 2D and 3D information so that they can ultimately communicate and collaborate more naturally and productively. This is completely synergistic with the Windows Vista value proposition. At Microsoft we talk a lot about the importance of a ‘people-ready’ vision and approach. Right Hemisphere’s 3D publishing software is ‘people-ready.’ It takes advantage of Vista and 3D content to facilitate the success of people across departments, companies, and even continents. This made them a natural Vista go-to-market.

Right Hemisphere and Windows Vista

Right Hemisphere has been working with Vista beta code for some time to ensure that XAML file exporting and XPS file publishing will be supported in both its enterprise and client software offerings when Vista is generally available. In addition, Right Hemisphere is working to integrate powerful Vista Security, Vista Installer Foundation, and Vista Search Integration technologies into an upcoming release of Deep Server™, the company’s flagship enterprise software product. This level of technology integration will greatly support our (MS) sales efforts to more effectively sell the new Vista platform into the manufacturing vertical. In fact, all deployments of Right Hemisphere’s enterprise solutions using Deep Server require the use and/or installation of multiple Microsoft SQL Servers and Microsoft NT Servers 2003 (integration with MS Vista Server in mid 2007).

Microsoft has already selected Right Hemisphere as a Vista Innovation Partner and will be co-marketing a series of webcasts in early 2007 that will highlight both Right Hemisphere and Microsoft Vista technology and value to manufacturing customers in the US and EMEA.

Deeper Dive Into Vista Integration

Right Hemisphere’s Deep Exploration™ and Deep Publish™ client applications will support XAML 3D content in their next releases which are expected to be available early 2007. With support already available for more than 120 2D and 3D formats, Deep Exploration will enable a wide range of CAD and other 3D data formats to be translated and published in the XAML format and as secure 3D XPS files for sharing and collaboration. With Vista’s enhanced data security and search features, this 3D content will also be protected and easily tagged and found throughout large enterprises and their extended supply chains.

Right Hemisphere’s Deep Publish software works with Deep Exploration client or Deep Server enterprise software to enable users to publish, view, interact with, and import 2D and 3D graphics directly into Microsoft® Office applications— such as Microsoft® Word, Excel, and PowerPoint®.. With Deep Server, customers will also be able to automate the process of creating XAML and XPS files on a large, enterprise scale. With Vista and an upcoming version of Deep Publish, users can import a 3D file directly into a Microsoft Office application and convert it to an XPS file with just one simple mouse click.
