Over the next couple of weeks I will write about the most innovative companies I saw at the Mobile World Congress...
InfoGin - is an interesting Israeli company in the "mobile content adaptation" space. I met Eran Wyler, CEO and founder a nice gentleman who really corrected me when I referred to his company a mobile transcoding company. Eran explained to me that InfoGin was a lot more than that. Transcoding for folks who do not know is adapting mobile content (typically Web-based) to fit and look nice on screens of mobile devices of various sizes and form factors. Eran explained to me that transcoding was just one of several interesting capabilities that InfoGin's Intelligent Mobile Platform provides:
- In addition to enabling superb presentation of any Web content, the platform also supports many rich Web technologies including Flash, JavaScript, streaming of multimedia content from Web sites, traffic optimization and cool editing and customizing tools.
As the demand for mobile content increases, content providers and operators need to increase their mobile data offerings to drive ARPU without compromising user experience. Looking at what exists today, there is no doubt that we still have a ways to go before we have stellar user experiences on majority of the phones out there. Most subscribers are dissatisfied with both the quality and the volume of mobile content that is currently on offer. A company like InfoGin have the right platform at the right time to assist operators and content providers adapt rich content to any mobile device with minimal effort and time. I saw a demo of how it transforms existing Web pages to a format that looks cool on different phones and I must say - it looked impressive.
CEO Eran Wyler is open to exploring ways of integrating with Microsoft technologies including Silverlight which will allow Infogin to deploy there solutions cross platform across different type of handsets. The company is funded by Argoquest Inc, a venture firm that invests in cutting edge Isreali based companies and from private investors.
