Mimosa Achieves Triple Digit Growth, Wins 375 Customers—including the Largest Email Archiving Deal of 2007

Mimosa Systems, Microsoft Gold Certified Partner What if your company had fingertip access to vast amounts of information? What if you had a powerful and rapid way to search and retrieve corporate information required by your auditors? Better still, what if you had uninterrupted access to corporate information— even in the midst of failures and errors? This is what Mimosa’s next-generation live content archiving solutions are all about. Founded in 2003, Mimosa set out to focus on the growing importance of email data as the primary business repository of record, as well as the increasing use of email across the enterprise. Based entirely on Microsoft technologies, Mimosa developed a new approach to managing critical enterprise information—one focused on data management of unstructured and semi-structured information, including email, documents, and other new data types.

Its information management offerings unify archiving, data protection and disaster recovery in one solution—and help transform everyday business processes and drive benefits across the organization, from CXOs to legal, HR to IT, and, most importantly, to employees. According to T.M. Ravi, Mimosa CEO, “We’re focused on delivering superior archiving solutions that transform the way organizations access, manage, and discover content across the enterprise.” As a leading pure-play content archiving vendor, the company delivers powerful archiving solutions that address customer requirements for information immediacy, eDiscovery, and continuity. Mimosa NearPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server claims to be the industry’s most comprehensive information management software solution for Microsoft Exchange, unifying email archiving, recovery, and storage management.

To date, the company has more than $34.5 million in funding from investors including August Capital, Clearstone Venture Partners, Dot Edu Ventures, JAFCO Ventures, and the Mayfield Fund,

According to Bob Kruger, Mimosa’s Senior Vice President of Engineering, ”The fundamental problem that really got everybody juiced up was being able to safely, securely, and without impacting the production environment capture Exchange messages, and be able to then effectively store and retrieve them for purposes like performing compliance functions or legal discovery. Those were probably the biggest drivers at first. It’s now moving beyond just Exchange into other areas like files and documents, and we’re also doing Instant Messaging traffic as well.”

The Microsoft Connection?

Microsoft’s Emerging Business Team began working with Mimosa in 2003, helping them make the right connections inside Microsoft, join the right programs, and assisting them with a Microsoft Technology Center architectural review and other offerings. Now a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, Mimosa has established strategic relationships with more than 100 resellers and integrators in its target regions.

Mimosa NearPoint is completely based on Microsoft technologies, which have enabled the company to accelerate its development and help bring an innovative, next-generation solution to market in record time—less than 18 months.

Where are they now?

Bob Kruger, Mimosa’s Senior Vice President of Engineering Mimosa Systems experienced triple digit revenue growth in 2007 as demand for its best-in-class email archiving accelerated worldwide. More than 370 customers in healthcare, government, financial services, and other verticals have standardized on the Mimosa Near Point solution. In the last quarter of 2007, the company closed a total of 98 transactions including one with a large healthcare company that has purchased Mimosa NearPoint for discovery email management, and recovery for an initial deployment of some 87,000 users going up to 150,000 in the future.

According to the company, this deployment represents one of the largest email archiving deals in the world. NearPoint was selected for its scalability and architecture. It’s also a deployment where the Microsoft sales team introduced Mimosa to the client and stood behind them ‘unwaveringly’ during the sales process.

Also during 2007, Mimosa was positioned in the Visionaries Quadrant of the Gartner, Inc., Magic Quadrant for e-Mail Active Archiving, 2007, report, and earned a number of product awards including Network World Top 10 Product for 2007; TechTarget’s SearchExchange Product of the Year; TechTarget’s SearchExchange Backup Product of the Year; CRN Top 5 “Storage Standouts”; and a Top 50 Emerging Vendor. Mimosa made it to the Always On AO 100 Top Private Companies list, ChannelWeb’s Top 10 Companies to Watch for 2008, and was named a Microsoft ISV Star Partner.

Building on the momentum underway in 2007, in early February 2008, Mimosa unveiled a powerful content monitoring and alerting option aimed at internal governance, information asset protection, and compliance.
